Eurasia Foundation opened a representative office in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 1999. In 2006, the Almaty office became the seat of the president of Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia (EFCA), which provides high-impact technical assistance and grant initiatives, including small grants, corporate social responsibility, micro-credit lending, labor migration, open budget, community development, ecotourism, foster parenting, master's of science in environmental management and engineering, revitalizing crafts in Kazakhstan. In recent years, Kazakhstan has seen an influx of labor migrants from neighboring Central Asian countries. EFCA provides vital services for Central Asian migrants by educating them on their rights and working to regulate the migration process as a whole. EFCA runs a network of centers that provides information and support to labor migrants. Currently, there are seven centers throughout the country. The Foundation also initiated Kazakhstan’s first Master’s-level environmental science program in partnership with the University of New Mexico The program was created in 2005 with the support of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and a number of international companies and organizations to train a cadre of highly qualified practitioners to ameliorate environmental problems.
